Google Android 4.4 KitKat

Over the years, Google has accustomed us to the liturgy "Nexus", according to which for every new terminal there must be a new release of the Android operating system (be it a minor update or a completely revised version). The Nexus 5 is no exception and, as dictated by tradition, its launch was accompanied by the release of Android 4.4 KitKat, which we have already spoken in the past on the occasion of the announcement jointly Nestle-Google and the first rumors about its features.

According to Sundar Pichai, Vice President of Google, Android 4.4 introduces an important innovation compared to its predecessors, as it can be installed on all Android devices"Until now, the limited memory of the first smartphones and tablets Android does not allow you to install newer versions of the operating system. KitKat With Android we have reduced memory usage, for example by eliminating unnecessary background services or reducing the amount of memory required for functions widely used " .

Google announces that, in services such as Chrome and YouTube, the memory consumption is significantly reduced and even devices with only 512MB of RAM will run Android 4.4 KitKat. This latest release, then, it is an operating system that can be installed on smartphones top-of-range but also on entry-level models, the most sold and also present in emerging markets. Android KitKat is "able to detect the power of the smartphone" and the developers will be able to adapt their applications according to this parameter that will be provided by the OS.
What will change?  The interface of KitKat changes little and looks a lot like Jelly Bean, though with some graphical differences (for example, the status bar has become dull and that navigation will vary with use). The application Phone, which has not changed for many people especially since traditional mobile phones, it is now easier allowing you to search your contacts, nearby places and even among the accounts associated with the Google app (such as the corporate directory) directly from the application.
In terms of functionality, Google has introduced a new system of launching applications, while Google Now is activated by swiping your finger to the left.
With the command "OK, Google" you can activate using the Google voice search, send a message, get directions, or even listen to a song. Now in the coming weeks will be further improved through the new cards that will give access to contextual information of interest such as updates from your favorite websites or blogs.
Now there is an application that allows you to interact with other programs, functions Hangout recovers SMS/MMS(which will be organized in one place, along with other conversations and video calls. This way you will never lose sight of a message, regardless of how it was sent), while applying Photos + HDR function appears KitKat.
In the coming weeks the Android platform 4.4 KitKat integrated into the Nexus 5 will also be available for Nexus 4, 7 and 10, the Samsung Galaxy S4 and HTC One Google Play edition in the coming weeks.

ASUS FonePad Notes 6 Phablet review

Tabletblog have had the opportunity to get your hands on one of the first units of ASUS FonePad Notes 6 in trade, specification and record a video impressions "hot" on the device. Launched last September , the new ASUS phablet challenge the Samsung Galaxy Note 3, which until now has dominated the market undisturbed by competitors. How can we infer from the name, this device inherits part of the "DNA" of the family FonePad 7-inch, distinguished by its own personality and some accessories included (like the stylus that allows the user to write and draw on the display).

Asus FonePad Notes 6 is equipped with a screen 6 inches with a resolution of Full HD (1920 x 1080 pixels) and high brightness. Under the body, ASUS has installed a dual-core Intel Atom Z2580 2GHz, with 2GB of RAM, 16GB or 32GB of internal memory depending on the model. On the back is placed a camera of 8 megapixels that, despite the absence of LED flash, does not disappoint for image quality and focus thanks to an appropriate set of software settings. The operating system is Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean, just customized by ASUS.
Compared to other ASUS tablet, in Notes 6 FonePad there are some additional features, including the ability to make calls and stylus . The latter is managed by some applications that facilitate the user in the most common operations, from the free hand writing (both for taking notes that to draw) the character recognition to the possibility to perform screenshot of the page. The touch looks excellent. Compared to the Galaxy Note 3, the ASUS phablet is a bit thicker and heavier, gives the idea of a device cheaper, so that costs less than 300 Euros (349 Euros is the list price). The tester feels to recommend it to anyone looking for a phablet with pen and want to save a few hundred euro. After all, ASUS FonePad Notes 6 is one of the best device for quality / price ratio.

Amazon Kindle HDX 7 reviews from experts

The Kindle HDX 7 integrates a display with a resolution of 1920 x 1200 pixels and 323 PPI, the same as the Nexus 7 and the highest on the market in this segment. Since the last Google tablet, the new Kindle adopts the powerful Qualcomm Snapdragon SoC 800, a quad core 2.2 GHz Krait 400 paired with a GPU Adreno 330 (higher than the Kindle's Snapdragon S4 Pro 7). 2 GB of RAM, 16, 32 or 64 GB of internal memory, 1.3-megapixel front camera, autonomy of 11 hours, modules WiFi and LTE and operating system FireOS Mojito version 3.0, based on Android 4.2.2, with exciting new features will complete the equipment. Even more important is that Amazon offers its solutions to exactly the same price of the Nexus 7, while offering something more seen as least as far as the hardware, and here is the crucial point of the reviews which will drive you back shortly extract.
Indeed, they are unanimous in acknowledging the tremendous work done by Amazon, which unfortunately continues to "make war" on Google, offering its own software ecosystem. While the OS fully satisfy the habitual consumer of products and services Amazon, on the other hand can only be a loser in the eyes of the generic user, deprived of access to Google Play and many features usually found in other Android tablet based. This is the only downside , then, that goes to mitigate the otherwise excellent evaluations received from the device.Unfortunately for Amazon, however, it is also a matter of great importance. Not all of the opinions, however, as you will see, are in line with these considerations, there is also those who think the opposite.
The Verge - When Amazon and Google partner to become enemies, we all lose. Amazon does not offer its best app on other Android devices and the Kindle Fire HDX lacks access to the Play Store and its hundreds of thousands of apps. If you have Kindle books, videos Prime, performed recursively orders on Amazon and everything else there is no best tablet to buy the HDX. But there is a huge ecosystem of app that lives only on Android tablet. Tablet as the Nexus 7.
GigaOM - Despite being great, the Kindle Fire tablet HDX will not become my main. Instead I'll stay with my iPad Mini: it is lighter, has a better ecosystem of applications and, above all, I find it easier to use for email and document creation light, in addition to a little 'photo editing.
ZDNet - It seems to me that Amazon has made a serious upgrade of its previous tablet Kindle Fire HD. In addition, the price, which was already low, was further decreased considerably. I think he's right when I say that these tablets will know a great success during the holiday season and will put pressure other Android tablet.
Engadget - The software continues to be a bit 'limiting for users, due to a user interface based on the use of their content and the lack of access to Google Play, but Amazon has also added many new features. If you are looking for a tablet to start for your loved ones, the HDX is an interesting proposal with many user-friendly features and specifications that correspond to those of the Nexus 7 blow for blow. It seems that it will be another good Christmas for the hardware division of Amazon.
LaptopMag - Who is looking for an experience will prefer the pure Android Nexus 7. The device of fact, Google offers a wider range of applications and some features that are missing the Kindle HDX, such as Google Now and a rear camera. However, while the Nexus 7 offers user profiles, Amazon has put even more focus on its target audience familiar with its robust parental controls and a wide range of content. Overall, the Kindle Fire HDX can easily be considered one of the best tablet of the year.
Gizmodo - If the basic version of Android and the Play Store are most important to you about all this (refers to various functions such as watching movies, check email, listen to music and read books, with a very smooth ride. Ed), then you need a Nexus 7. But if there is a device able to make you reconsider your (absurd? Maybe not, but maybe yes!) Priority, this is the Kindle HDX. The line Kindle Fire has often been criticized for not being a real Android tablet (vero!) in a world of 7 inches that offer access to the Google Play Store (not true). But in reality, both of these distinctions are meaningless: the Kindle Fire HDX does things that make all the tablet and, in almost all cases, it does best.
Mashable - Personal preferences aside, it's hard to beat the Kindle HDX by price, performance and cleverly integrated ecosystem. More than any tablet on the market, the device Amazon have always been built for content consumption. According to Amazon CEO Jeff Bezos, the company sells them at cost price. This is because Amazon will derive earnings more than anything else from the many services offered by its ubiquitous shopping platform.
TechHive - I do not know what you could do to improve the Apple iPad mini so let me advise instead of the Kindle Fire HDX, provided of course that the person who asks my advice has little interest for productivity or gaming. A 7-inch HDX will offer a superior use of content, leaving you also about 100 dollars in his pocket, which you can spend to buy books, music and movies.

This solution supports multi-user access offered by the operating system Google Android 4.2.2, thus enabling the safe use of a single device for the whole family. The Arrows Tab FJT21 also has other aspects of some importance. The dimensions such as are contained, with the body that measures 261 x 169 x 8.9 mm and weighs about 520 g, and seems made of aluminum alloy, at least as regards the rear. The chassis also is also compliant with the standard IPX5/8 and IP5X and is therefore resistant to the ingress of dust and liquids. The display has a diagonal instead of 10.1 inches , a resolution of 2560 x 1600 pixels and a protective glass Corning Gorilla 3.

Archos GamePad 2, gaming 7-inch tablet

Archos has been working for a long time on the new GamePad 2 , gaming 7-inch tablet has obtained the certification of FCC recently , and only this morning, HKTDC has published the product page revealing its technical final. The new Archos GamePad 2 will have approximately the same size as its predecessor , but will boast a display with higher resolution, a processor faster and more memory RAM on board.
GamePad 2 is powered by a 1.6GHz quad-core CPU, which makes us think of a Rockchip RK3188 SoC, and integrates a 7-inch IPS display with a resolution of 1280 x 800 pixels, 2GB of RAM and 16GB of internal memory, expandable with a microSD card slot. What makes this device a tablet or a gaming console/Android tablet is definitely the presence of a D-pad and physical buttons integrated into the frame, which increase the size of the GamePad 2 (larger than any other 7-inch tablet) but allow the user to keep the console from the sides, with the thumbs and fingers on the buttons, without the need to touch the screen to start a game.
The tablet by a capacitive touchscreen display, but you can use a key mapping software for controlling and managing the game without using the screen. Sales prices and the availability to the public consumer are not yet known, but we expect a launch later this year (maybe for Christmas) to about $ 200. For now you can order 500 units for $ 170 each.

Barnes & Noble will announced its tablet soon

The Nook Tablet, released in recent years, low-cost devices with Android operating system and applications dedicated to the reading of digital content from the B & N Store, but have not experienced the same success of the Amazon Kindle Fire tablet. For this reason, in the month of June, the company announced it would stop production of the Nook Tablet, while still producing the ebook-reader with e-ink display. The idea was to collaborate with other device manufacturers to continue to offer tablet in stores B & W or those of partners. But it seems that the company has "intention to continue to design and develop ebook-reader and tablet Nook."
The change, is following the resignation of CEO, William Lynch, reported in the last financial report of the company , which also highlights the economic difficulties of B & W, with a decrease in turnover of 20% than last year. According to the company, the financial loss is due in part to marcanza of a series of best selling books such as The Hunger Games or 50 shades of gray, but also to the increasingly fierce competition between the supply of physical books in the stores and to ebook, which can be read on e-book readers and tablets.
It is not clear whether we will see a new Nook tablet this year, but the company ensures that before Christmas will be launched a new Nook device. Since B&N has reduced the price of almost all models Nook in recent months, it is difficult to predict which device will be replaced by the one coming. B&W is developing a new Nook Simple Touch high resolution or color ebook-reader ?

Nvidia Tegra Tab 7 Tablet

After the rumors of last week, which allowed us to define the name and the design of the new Nvidia tablet, add new details about the mysterious Tegra Tab 7Although for now the Green Team chose not to rule on the next device in production, Nvidia Tegra Tab 7 is now show the official pictures. Latest photos, published by FoneArena, we show for the first time this tablet front, after having intrigued with the close-up images of the camera and the back.
Although it was initially thought to integration of a SoC Tegra 5, it is more likely that Nvidia Tegra Tab 7 "guard" a chip Tegra 4. The Nvidia tablet, as suggested by AndroidWorld, could push the sale and distribution of the last of the SoC company, especially after the disappointing results of the last quarter with a loss of revenue and profits and the low prevalence of Tegra 4. It should be noted, that despite the timid acceptance of Tegra 4, Nvidia Shield has made a full house, with excellent sales performance. Nvidia Tegra Tab 7 could have the same fate, proving "the trump card" of the company to return to growth.

Kindle Fire Low cost tablets (not HD) with Mediatek MT8135

It would be a great victory for the Taiwanese chipmaker. MediaTek is an Asian company that provides chip for mobile devices "white box" and is also one of the leading providers of smartphone/tablet the most successful Chinese. Until now, the presence of this company in the "developed world" has not done much to hear, but the situation could change soon because Sony, Acer, Lenovo and other companies have adopted the MediaTek chip in their own low-end devices. These could also join Amazon, with a massive order of SoC for the next low-cost Kindle Fire.

The SoC chosen would be a MediaTek MT8135, based on the ARM architecture big.LITTLE, just like the Samsung Exynos Octa, but with "only" four cores (2 Cortex A15 for the most demanding tasks and 2 Cortex A7 for energy saving). Unlike the design of Samsung, however, MediaTek MT8135 allows to simultaneously work the two clusters or in any suitable combination to the workload. This means that when you need to activate only the core A7, saving energy, while for maximum performance must also activate the core A15.
Amazon has chosen MediaTek for the good relationship between price and processor power. The chipmaker produces almost exclusively low-cost processors, while Amazon is trying to maintain its sales prices of the next Kindle Fire, albeit with much higher specifications than the current ones. If the SoC Mediatek MT8135 is intended only for entry-level Kindle Fire (not HD), then we can see it updated this fall along with the HD variants. Maybe Amazon will maintain the current model on sale for a couple of months, and then replace it with the MediaTek-based.
